The whole vigil went on with the sound in the background of the Requiem Mass of Mozart, that so much pleased Rolando.

Viviana, our daughter, has contemplated and accompanied him during a whole day and a night, and until the moment of the last goodbye.

Even when, in the evening, all went to their own houses, to the houses where they were accommodated or to their hotel, she wanted to remain there, in the World Centre of Biodanza, where the vigil had taken place, so that he would not be spending the night alone. And so Pedro, the son of Cecilia Toro, has also stayed for the night, to keep Viviana company.

Before the close of the vigil for the night, Rodrigo Toro, one of the sons of Rolando, opened a space in which all those, among those present, who wanted to say some words or read some poetry in homage to Rolando, could do so. And he announced that the morning of the next day, at the cemetery, another similar space would be open, but, for family and for relatives.

Several of those present have expressed themselves through profoundly moving speeches.

Following that a popular Chilean song was played that gave joy to Rolando in the last days of his life and those present, who knew the song, sang it together with the CD that was playing.

Then Antonio Sarpe, musician and director of a School of Biodanza, sang, accompanying himself on the guitar, two of the Brasilian songs preferred by Rolando: "Eu sei que vou te amar" and "Se todos fossem iguais a você", from the poet and singer-songwriter Vinicius de Moraes. Again all those who were there and knew the songs, sang them together with Antonio

Finally, Rodrigo Toro proposed to those present a farewell to Rolando and embraces of leaving among each other, and he put on the song "Free as a bird", of the Beatles, that Viviana had suggested to Rolando so many years ago, and that pleased him so much.
After that only the children, members of the family and very close friends stayed for a 'first ultimate goodbye', before the ultimate farewell the next day.
Despues se quedaron sólo los familiares

That next day a procession of cars was formed that accompanied Rolando to the ‘Parque del Recuerdo’ (Park of Remembrance), a graveyard park. The procession was so long that, when going through a tunnel, one could read on an electronic display: 'slow down for funeral procession'.

It was a beautiful day with sun and the cemetery was one of the most beautiful parks that I have ever seen: an immense green expanse of nicely trimmed grass, with patches of flower gardens and groups of trees scattered here and there. Various birds with coloured plumage were walking here and there. In the centre of the park a beautiful circular fountain. The tombstones all equal: small, rectangular, of white marble, resting horizontally on the green grass.

A deep cavity in the earth, covered with green cloth, had been prepared for Rolando, near to a small waterfall and a little lake, where various lotus flowers of a beautiful rose-coloured were blooming: I counted about five, amidst other white ones. The birds were flying and singing.
When the coffin was arriving a sweet choir of singers could be heard, teachers and students of Biodanza coming from Brasil who, accompanied by the guitar, performed the song "Gracias a la vida", from the singer-songwriter Violeta Para, that Rolando so much appreciated .

A lectern and a microphone had been placed in front of the coffin with the remains of Rolando.
Several family members and some close friends have expressed the last salute to Rolando through words of love, of thanking and reading of poetry. At that occasion I have read the poetry of farewell that I had written for him at the dawn of that same day and that I am sending you now, attached to this message.
The coffin was lowered slowly towards the depth of the earth to the sound of one of the movements of the Requiem Mass of Mozart, of a long and warm applause produced for Rolando by those present and beneath a 'rain' of sunflowers that some threw on the coffin.
At the closing of the ceremony a light structure was placed over the cavity, upon which the many bouquets and garlands of flowers were placed.

Finally the cavity of Rolando was completely covered with flowers. Al final, todo fue cubierto con flores

The day before our return to Italy Viviana and I have gone back to the cemetery, accompanied by Claudete and Ana Laura. It was a beautiful sunny day.
Rolando rests very close to a pretty Mimosa tree.

A few meters away some workers were labouring on digging another cavity and, at the bottom of it, they found a rabbit: one of them put it on the edge, gave it a caress and let it go. The rabbit made a long jump, started running tracing some circles on the green grass and then disappeared under a shrub.

Rolando identified himself with Ezra Pound, whom he considered his 'master of poetry', in feeling himself a "passenger from eternity". When we came to Italy for the first time, in 1988, I have accompanied him to visit the tomb of Pound at the cemetery of Venice.

I remember that on that occasion he made me notice that the date of birth and death were not inscribed on the tomb of the poet, because that one had felt himself to be a "passenger from eternity". He had told me that he identified with Pound in that feeling of his and had expressed the desire that, after his death, no dates would be incised on his stone.

Thus, according to his wish, on his tomb the date of birth and of death are not engraved.

A dear embrace to all of you with my affection.

Un abrazo afectuoso para todos
Eliane
